A motivated (and healthy) J.O. means Kapono, Calderon & Parker become that much better.

Jermaine O’Neal will own with the Raptors with him Chris Bosh and Andrea Bargnani and watch out Orlando, Boston ,and Detroit.

  9. Alejandro Said,

    July 13, 2008 @ 8:56 pm

Man, if Jermaine can be healthy and rejuvenate himself and play the same way he did earlier on with the Pacers, boy this could be a very strong powerful and frigtening froncourt in the East and in the whole NBA, what a great steal it has been fopr the Raptors!!!!!! Raptors sure are gonna be a better team this year with his addition.

  10. navi Said,

    July 13, 2008 @ 9:19 pm

o’neal looks good….he is soo incredbly humble which i never knew…good fit with the raptors organization which have a good character in the post-Carter saga…hopefully raptors make a run next year!

    I think I speak for everyone when I say: you’re a moron.

  12. ANDY Said,

    July 13, 2008 @ 9:50 pm

The raptors are going to have the best down-low presence in the East…but they’re still a couple of pieces away from being serious contenders. Until they get a real swingman (e.g. Gerald Wallace), they’re not going to get deep in the playoffs

  14. jacob Said,

hahah yea right, you have a soft pf (bosh) and a 40 game a season center (Jo),

id take duncan over both of them together

  15. Bball Unit Said,

    July 13, 2008 @ 10:56 pm

good interview.. he made a good point about double teaming in the post.

  16. Jaggard Said,

    July 13, 2008 @ 11:16 pm

    Exactly right, Flip.

Except Bosh isn’t half the player Duncan is and Jermaine O’Neal isn’t one tenth the player David Robinson was.

  17. alex borstein Said,

    July 13, 2008 @ 11:42 pm

Realistically. I see big forhead him getting 14 and 8 and 2 blocks. Chris will get 18 and 8 and 1 block . Jamrio moon with 8 and 6 and 1 block. Anthony parker will get 12 and 4 and 2. Calderon will get 12 and 10.

Baragani will get 8 and 5 plus 1 block in limited minutes. I see him regressing due to two post players.

If he does gets confidence i see him getting 18 and 5 and 3 assists and 1 block. Bargani is a good scorer and a shot blocker. I dunno if Baragani needs to go on the dr.phil show to get things sorted out. Because physically he is a specimen. But mentally he makes careless mistakes.

Hopefully he can gain confidence back. I saw flashes of brillance during his rookie year. I think Bargani is a pussy cat and does not like pressure. So if i comes out as a sixth man i think he can do some damage

  18. HC Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 1:26 am

A Raptors’ fan here, so I hope the combo of Bosh + O’Neal will work. A good comparison, but I doubt they will be the next Duncan and Robinson. Bosh is a superior athlete but isn’t as rock solid as Duncan. O’Neal has become a good defender over the years but doesn’t dominate the paint like Robinson did in his prime. Another famous set of twin towers, of course, is Olajuwan and Sampson. However, Bosh and O’Neal are more experienced than the former two at their playing days together and cannot really be compared. Still, as long as both players remain relatively healthy, this new Raptors’ duo will be far better than the latest failed twin-towers experiment that Knicks put together last year in Randolph and Curry.

  19. Christian Maddox Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 2:12 am

    Chris Bosh ?????

  20. Dave Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 2:54 am

Jermaine O’Neal and Bosh the next Tim Duncan and David Robinson…sure Bosh might be the next David Robinson or Tim Duncan but Jermaine O’Neal is done.

5 years ago sure he was good, he finished #2 in MVP voting 6 years ago. Now he has really bad knees….missed half his games last year, has really been on the decline…is not worth $22M he is being paid.

If he can become the player he was in 2002 it would be an amazing front line.

  21. Coop Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 4:06 am

    haha. Wrong! ;)

  22. Damon Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 5:38 am

    @ Dave
JO finished second in mvp voting 6 years ago?
please don’t say things like that if you have no clue.
he finished 3rd in mvp voting 4 years ago when he was in his prime and led the pacers to the best record in the league.
    get your facts right

  23. Joey Deegeling Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 7:47 am

O’Neal is too soft to be a superstar, hopefully for Toronto he will be healthy and more effective in a support role.

44% as a center is a horrible percentage, if he can get it to 50% and average like 14 and 8 and 2 blocks they will have a nice adition. They will be as good as Orlando

  24. Johnn19 Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 7:54 am

Bosh and O’Neal are a wait and see proposition, with potentially a big improvement in Raptors on offense and defense. They will need the season to get the new players integrated, and we will see if they can achieve some results in the playoffs.

  25. James Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 7:59 am

As injuried as O’Neal is, he is still 10 times better then any center they have ever had… (and Antontio Davis doesn’t count he was really a PF). And forget the salary it comes off the booked next year and besides I would have traded a bag of chips for TJ Ford…. At the end of the day they are a better team now.

  26. kris Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 8:16 am

finally something to matchup with celtics big three…im looking for totornto to goo deep into the playoffs!!!

  27. Porky Said,

Celtics will win the title again. The other teams will lose. Be there.

  28. Jesse Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 8:36 am

As someone who lives in Toronto and watches the games(most covered NBA team) I will say that it looks all good! Hopefully the chemistry works and Andrea can improve on ball handling, posting up and being more physical. Their are plenty of sick teams in the East now- Philly! So, it will make for an interesting year with all the competition of good teams.I think J.O. ,can be worth his $ value as stated by above comment. Fingers crossed for all the Raptors fans.

  29. Brandon Hoffman Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 9:08 am

IF O’Neal returns to the 2003-2004 form, the Pacers have the best frontcourt in the Eastern Conference. If Andrew Bynum doesn’t return to full strength, the Raptors have the best frontcout in the NBA.

    Should be interesting.

  30. Nat Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 9:10 am

sorry guys, after july 8 i think elton brand and Sam Dalembert are a better combination of bigs in the east

  31. Jorel Jenious Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 9:33 am

This guy played two seasons with an injury that would sideline 95% of the league.

He was a stud before, and most of his game wasn’t pure athletism. His skill with the 12 to 17 foot jumper, his paint game, and his toughness on the block both rebounding and defense wise is second or third team all defense.

You can’t look at an injury year and judge players. He played on one leg. Last year Arenas played on one leg. (does anyone think Arena’s will now be an 18 point guy, of course not.)

JO allows Bosh to play 4’s straight up and more importantly, they have to guard him straight up.

They’ll win 47-54 games next year.

They traded their back up point for Jermain Oneal. Great Trade.

  32. Jai-Jay Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 10:27 am

You guys just don’t know whats coming for the raptors. Having Moon still on the team, playing for a big contract he is going to be very exciting to watch because the twin towers are going to open the lane for him to dunk it over almost anybody. But remember he could still pop those 3’s. Watch out for MOOOOON……

  33. Andre Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 10:51 am

Bosh and O’Neal.. very interesting combo.. question is, will they finally admit they made a mistake drafting Andrea? i still think they really need a swingman… honestly, they need to trade Joey Graham. he hasnt shown anything, its time to move on.

Raptors, if healthy, and play defense will be a 2 - 3 in the east. so im excited.

  34. Bill Ingram Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 11:02 am

Jermaine is absolutely my favorite All-Star - not from a “fan” point of view, but from the “I love to talk to and promote this guy” point of view. He’s someone who made a mistake and lives with it every day to make sure he doesn’t repeat it. I did an interview with him for out magazine and he said the hardest thing he’s ever had to do was explain to his daughter (five at the time) why “Daddy was in a fight. Isn’t fighting bad, Daddy?” We were both in tears at the end of THAT interview. You can’t help but pull for a guy like that.

  35. Junior Said,

  36. Vince P Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 11:37 am

Jermaine said it: “We look good on paper, but…”

We’ll see how many games it takes to get their shit together. Remember, Smitch is still coaching so they are bound to screw up.

  37. upfake Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 11:46 am

good trade for the raptors…it’s going to be fun watching these play ball, Sam Mitchell will be fired if they don’t make it to the second round of the playoff….

  38. mohamed Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 1:38 pm

Read this carefully, orlando beat us in the first round .Now they just added michal pitris .we need someone at the SF spot dont even expect us too past the 1st round we need too go after L barbosa,J posey,G wallace, S Marion, G Hill, R Artest. we get one of these players then we are winners and barbosa i want him as a back up SG For A Parker And no matter what we have too go after J Posey Sparkle of the bench.

  39. John Park Williams Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 1:49 pm

Bottom Line: They got JO for a player they didnt even want. Good move for the Raptors. If Bargnani can materialize into ANYTHING this year, and combine those 3 with bigs with Calderon, the Raptors could win the Atlantic Division.

Unfortunately, their starters at the 2 and 3 (Anthony Parker and Jason Kapono/Carlos Delfino) are terrible.

Do they have no chance at James Posey?

  40. THE RAPTOR Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 1:57 pm

Firstly, everyone out there thats hating on JO have no clue of what they are talking about. Obviously JO has gotten older but understand the reason the behind the trade. JO is a standout athlete, superior defender who was pretty much annoyed of being a Pacer (he pretty much pulled a Vince Carter on the pacers). The man burst into tears when he found out he was traded to the raps; thats how frustrated he was in Indiana. Just a season before he got injured he was putting up all-star numbers for 4-5 consecuitve seasons. However, his knees are not as good as they use to be, But I still believe he can put up 16pts and 8reb a game.

JO coming to T.Dot is huge for the raptors, Bosh will no longer have to defend the bigger Centers like D-Howard in the paint and will have mis-matches every game as he will go against smaller and slower PF. The raptors needed to improve interior defence and rebounding and thats exactly what they did with the JO trade.

    A featured line-up of:
    calderon, parker, Moon, Bosh, JO
    with a bench of:
Kapono, Bragnani, Delfino, Graham, Brezec, Humphries…will prove to be one of the deepest benches in the league.

As Chuck always says…Raptors are gonna be “SICK, WICKED, and NASTY”…

  41. DavidCha Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 2:07 pm

JO+Bosh=Good, possibly the Eastern Conference’s best 4,5 combo this year

Robinson+Duncan=One of HISTORY’S GREATEST 4,5 Combos. 2 future Hall of Famers.

I love the raps, being a TO native, however any basketball enthusiast can see that there is absolutely no comparison between the Twin Towers and the Twig Towers(<came up with that now). David Robinson was a bonified beast throughout his career and even tallied more points in a single game than some guy named M.Jordan. Tim Duncan dominated at Wake Forrest and was a consensus #1 overall pick in his draft, and has consistently played at a HALL OF FAME level since being selected #1.

No disrespect to BOSH+JO cause that’s a nice (slender)duo in the post but they shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath as DRob+Duncan. JO hasn’t showed up for seasons, injury or not, and was replaced by Danny freakin granger as the Pacers’ #1 guy, and white dunleavy as the #2. Good luck to JO and Bosh next year though.

Too bad that all the teams not named Boston in the East will be playing for a consolation prize, because as long as the Celtics have a healthy trio, the East is basically a race for second place and the Eastern Conference finals’ runner up spot.(or better lottery positioning)

  42. archi graf Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 2:07 pm

Don’t mock nobody until proven. And enough said of JO having a troubled knee and Bosh being soft. Watch out ! The day has come that the Raptors will take charge and advance to the Eastern Championship. This season is ours.

  43. OlsonS3 Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 2:46 pm

I am a Pacers fan, and JO was all class here in Indy. I hate to see him go but his game doesn’t fit in the Obrien run and run some more scheme. He took most of last year off to get his knee healthy enough for a trade like this. He looked good at the end of the year, and though he wasn’t in game shape yet, reminded me of the younger JO.

I think this is the best his knee has been in 3 years, so the deal is good for the Raptors. The deal worked for the Pacers also. WIN_WIN!!!!

  44. Ed Witten Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 3:43 pm

I calculate the odds of Raptors winning the NBA title at 0.4%.

I calculate the odds of Celtics winning the NBA title at 95.6%.

Based on my statistical analysis we can safely state that the Celtics will once again win the NBA title.

    Be present at the fulfullment.

  45. Zee Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 4:19 pm

As a Raptors fan I’m really excited about the trade. If JO can stay healthy, I think we’ll see a whole different team next season. Mostly, I’m pumped that we actually have a frontcourt now…we lost so many games because we just couldn’t get enough boards and got beat up in the paint. It’ll be interesting to see how this opens things up for perimeter shooters too. Can’t wait til the season starts!

  46. Eugene Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 6:04 pm

im a raps fan and i watched a lot of games last season. the biggest thing the raptors were missing was defense and toughness. Those are the exact qualities JO brings. In the playoff serious with the magic, it was pretty evident that D. Howard could do whatever he wanted out there. I’m extremely happy with this trade because it helps weakness (toughness) while not compromising our biggest strengh (shooting).

Im not ready to call the raptors elite yet, but i like our chances against the celts, pistons and cavs a lot more than i did last yr.

  47. alex borstein Said,

i dont think they will make it pass the first round. THey need more talent to compete with orlando getting micheal pietrus

  48. Bill Ingram Said,

    July 14, 2008 @ 7:03 pm

They have no shot at Posey because they don’t have the money for him. He’s going to get PAID . . .overpaid, actually.

  49. aiyo Said,

    July 15, 2008 @ 3:19 am

bottom line raptors had to be better in their interrior defense stopping big men from scoring downlow n rebounding from them bosh all by himself wasn’t productive enough JO n babyshag pick ups will prolly make raptors have the second best front court in the league second to lakers

  50. aiyo Said,

    July 15, 2008 @ 3:22 am

bottom line toronto rapttors had to get more tougher n aggressive big men for rebounding n in the paint interrior defense now they have jermaine oneal n baby shag to help take pressure of bosh will have the second best front court in the league next to lakers watch for the raptors around mid season n on to be a wrecking force to be messed with an be an elite team competiting in the playoffs

  51. crustyballs Said,

first of all..THE RAPTOR…please no more swirsky pharses…i don’t ever want to hear anything from him again…

The only thing that will hold this team back will be the lack of bench…this P*$$Y barney..better be working hard this summer..

and mitchell better learn how to use these guys i never want to see bosh and oneal on the bench at the same time…and i never want to see jose being pulled while he’s on fire..and most of all i never want to see joey graham on the court…

  52. ezz bee Said,

    July 15, 2008 @ 11:09 am

TJ for JO even at the tune of 22 mill is worth it. As long as JO can stay healthy and play even 24min a game raps will have the best frontcourt in the east. they still need someone who can drive the ball, unfortunately they can’t really afford anyone… Maybe they can pick up somebody cheap like keith bogans? or just pull an international player, coangelo has always been good at that. without someone who can drive the ball, raps will be lucking to get into the second round (Moon should be able to drive, but i’m not convinced that he will, also his shot is streaky at best, although his defense still makes him a starter)

  53. JB Said,

    July 15, 2008 @ 4:04 pm

he’ll be a good addition but not as tough as many think.

  54. Chad Said,
