Steve Francis will make $19 mil this season and we haven't seen him productive in an NBA game in quite some time. Last season New York paid Allen Houston $20 mil & he was retired for several seasons. This year Gilbert Arenas was signed to a $100 mil contract by the Wizards & he missed more than half the season a year ago and will start this season on the injured list. The fans have to stop BAILING OUT these NBA franchises when they make horrible decisions in paying crazy salaries to the wrong players then jacking up ticket prices because "We Love This Game". If ticket prices go up $1 in your town the fans should boycott and not attend the first 3 games just to show the owners & players how a bad economy affects the average joe & his family. Who Bails us Out when we make a bad business decision or bad investment- nobody. Let's stop bailing these teams out for overpaying under achieving players with positive upsides & all star potential that is never met. Owners should choke on their own mistakes !

It's all market priced, but I'm not so sure that the players are prepared for that. When the "social contract" was broken in the early 80's between business and white collar, college-educated, workforce, there was a fair amount of backlash. It frequently wasn't pretty. Just as many of us were indoctrinated into the notion that a college degree was a ticket to upward mobility and a better life, I'd bet a fair sum that today's crop of pro athlete sacrificed a lot, personally, in hopes that they'd make it as a pro athlete. If sports do reflect our society, then the players are going to experience a lot of the stuff we get, too.

Excellent, sharp writing

jmm, why does the NFL do that? Because it can afford to do so, every single game is going to be sold out. No wonder that NBA teams cannot sell out 41 home games in the regular season. Believe me, if they could, those vultures would take 500 bucks for a seat way up in the stands.

Honestly, I feel that all NBA players could surrender 10% of their salaries this season in order to prevent a real crisis from happening.

the owners and media rake in billions off the hard work of the players. what's wrong with them getting a fair share of the pie?

more than basketball players, they are entertainers for not only the US but the whole world. i think the best basketball entertainer is worth at least 30 mill a year, considering the money that is being made off him.

Rent movies Reno? There has been 5 good movies made in the last 5 years combined. I was thinking about this the other day. People love to bash the NBA over money issue, but they aren't even close to the fees of an NFL ticket.

You had to put down a 5,000 dollar deposit just to hold a seat in the nose bleed section in the new Cowboys stadium. Then you have pay the fee which is 375 per game.

Sure ... if I still have my unlimited ATM card drawn on my house .... but even then, the NBA was boring the heck outta me: too much entertainment, not enough ball; too many games, not enough that mattered....

I'll go and rent DVD movies instead.

Sure, if I still had my unlimited ATM card drawn from my house, things would be different, but even then, the NBA was boring the heck out of me: it's too much entertainment, not enough ball; too many games, and not enough that mattered; ...

With that in mind, I'll just go rent a DVD movie instead.

It's the end of the world as we know it
I feel fine...
I love basketball more than most people I know...
but if I read another article about how the biggest crisis I'll probably ever live through is going to affect millionaire basketball players I'm going to straight up snap!
These guys have made their millions, I on the other hand have to pay $100 to play 10 games against scrubs, so screw the Kobes and KGs!!!
Peace outtttttt

I think it is time for the NBA to look at the ridiculous salaries players are asking for and stop raising prices to overpay these spoiled brats. The Lakers have just announced an increase in ticket prices for premier games and are looking at other ways to increase revenue to maintain their profit. I mean Kobe wants 30 - 35 million per season extention! Fans are using their kids college funds in order to maintain season tickets and everybody needs to swallow that red pill, wake up, and put that money into the future for their kids. I love sports but the economic problems we are facing as a country make you realize that there are more important things to invest your money in and paying $300 to take your family to a game isn't it.

Wake up people and start rejecting these ticket prices. This is the only way to bring tickets prices down.

Go Obama!
