[...] Jorge Sierra, HoopsHype: "While [Jerry] Stackhouse worked out with the Hawks late in the summer — to rave reviews from beat writer Sekou Smith — Atlanta was never a very serious option for him. There was some contact with Houston, according to Stackhouse, but the Tar Heel is mostly looking to join a contender, which obviously the Rockets are not at this point. ‘That’s my final goal. I’m trying to catch on with a team that’s close to winning a championship. I think after all my years in Dallas I have proved that I can accept a role and still help a team.’ Even though not ready to retire, Stackhouse says he’s contemplating some other options for when his playing days are over — mostly broadcasting and coaching. ‘I definitely want to be around the game. Being able to be work with young guys and help them develop, I would have a blast doing that.’" [...]

Stack should hang it up. At age 35 he doesn't have anything left in the tank to give to a team. I think all of the title contending teams have deep rosters and wouldn't have use for him. He prob may sign with a young team and be a 12th man as a locker room presence for the young guys. Thats what Portland did with the signing of washed up vet Juwan Howard. So my prediction is he will not get signed and his NBA career is done

Ok, I'm tired of the portrayal that the Mavericks wasted his last good years. Shoot me down all you want but Stack was more worthless than Devean George for the Mavericks.
For one thing, he didn't want to be here in a bench role (though Dallas has had multiple "6th man" candidates in each of the last 3 seasons, he saw that role as beneath him) and his "injury" kept him out of most of the games.

I watched all but a handful of Mav games over the past 4 years. In his tenure he took too many ill-advised shots and never offered that leadership figure to the younger wingmen. There is a reason he isn't getting signed and it's because he isn't a capable NBA contributor anymore.

Hello Europe.....The smart thing to do is to sign a Europeean contract with an opt-out clause. For further reference call Dominque Wilkins, Anthony Parker, Mateo Basten or Marc Jackson (the fat and lazy one). The downside - he might actually pick up some passing and defending skills. The upside - an easyway to loose your entourage.

The good news for Stack is as long as Larry Hughes is still playing he won't be the most washed up player in the league.

For his post basketball career he should considering being a mason. He already has considerable experience laying bricks...

I don't give a darn about two-time all star Stackhouse but I do hope that three time all star Antoine Walker gets picked up. Both Chicago and Charlotte are teams that are a little light on veteran PF/SF combo type players.
