Will Stoudemire have a new home?

The names have been bandied about for some time and will obviously be until the Feb. 19 NBA trade deadline. Contenders looking to get that extra edge will have a choice at a number of available current stars, once-stars and serviceable players.

You’ve heard all the rumors and here’s a speculative look at some of the possible destinations for those listed prominently in rumorsville.

Amare Stoudemire. The 26-year-old Phoenix power forward appears to be the best player available. He is on the books for more than $15 million this year can opt out of his player contract after the 2009-2010 season.

It’s apparent that Phoenix wouldn’t mind parting with him, but this has to be more than just a salary dump, although receiving an expiring contract won’t hurt. The Suns also need players who can help them immediately.

It has been suggested in various media outlets that the Bulls could offer the expiring $7.1 million contract of Drew Gooden, Joakim Noah, Tyrus Thomas and a possible first round pick for Stoudemire. This would be a dangerous move for Phoenix, because it would be accepting back two players, Noah and Thomas, who are athletic, but have been wildly inconsistent.

CBSSportsline.com has reported among others that Portland has talked to Phoenix, with LaMarcus Aldridge, Jerryd Bayless and the expiring $12.7 million contract of Raef LaFrentz being rumored. (To make this trade work, Phoenix would also have to throw in another players such as Goran Dragic).

Still, one would have to wonder if Phoenix really wants to make a trade with a Western Conference team, although the Suns likely would pull the trigger if it meant they got the best value.

Miami continues to be mentioned as a possible destination but for that to happen, the Suns might have to take back the expiring $17.1 million contract of Shawn Marion and that doesn’t seem likely to happen.

One trade that would work without including Marion is if the Heat sent Michael Beasley, Marcus Banks and Udonis Haslem to Phoenix for Stoudemire. Again, would that be enough?

Toronto has been another rumored destination, but it doesn’t appear as if the Raptors have enough to interest Phoenix.

There will be plenty of other teams that will make pitches to Stoudemire for one simple reason – they know he is available.

Vince Carter. Had the New Jersey Nets been a winning team, Carter may have been an all-star this season. He still has plenty left in his game, but also two more years on his contract after this season, plus a team option.

If the Nets are just looking to dump salary, then Carter to Cleveland for Wally Szczerbiak’s expiring $13 million contract and rookie J.J. Hickson would work. However despite a contract that will have more than $33 million the next two years, the Nets should look for more value for Carter.

Cleveland would be the perfect fit for Carter, who would give the Cavs a great third option along with LeBron James and Mo Williams.

Mike Miller. Last season he was on the trading block at the deadline but stayed with Memphis and didn’t get dealt to Minnesota until draft night. Miller would be a good fit in Cleveland and at $9 million this year and $9.7 million next season, would be a less expensive option than Carter.

Again, this would probably only work if the Wolves are looking to dump salary. The biggest chip the Cavs have is to trade is Szczerbiak’s expiring contract. Cleveland could trade Szczerbiak and Hickson to Minnesota for Miller and Brian Cardinal (owed $6.7 million next year). Both Miller and Cardinal have contracts that expire after next the 2009-2010 season.

San Antonio would also be a good destination for Miller.

Tyson Chandler. The New Orleans center will make nearly $12 million next season and has a player option for 2010-2011. Sports Illustrated had a potential rumor of Chandler going to Detroit for Rasheed Wallace and his expiring contract. That is probably a deal the Pistons would make quicker than the Hornets. New Orleans would receive cap relief but the Hornet would then be looking for a center after this year if they couldn’t re-sign Wallace.

With Andrew Bynum hurt again, the Lakers would be a good place for Chandler, but would New Orleans want to trade him to a Western Conference team? Plus the Lakers don’t have anybody of consequence that they would apparently be willing to trade. Lamar Odom’s name always comes up, but with Bynum hurt again, and the Lakers playing to win it this year, it wouldn’t make sense to trade him.

Miami, with Marion being the best bait, has also been among the teams listed in rumorsville for Chandler.

Two salaries that match up are Chandler and Philadelphia’s Samuel Dalembert. Each have been inconsistent this year and could a change of scenery help both?

Again, this is purely speculation, something that is rampant this time of year.

Shawn Marion. Finding a team that Marion hasn’t been mentioned in a trade rumor is a difficult proposition. With an expiring contract worth more than $17 million, Marion’s name has been linked to many teams, with Cleveland and Toronto heading the list. One thing is for sure – no matter who Marion signs with after this season, it will be difficult to command the salary he is earning now.

Brad Miller and anybody else on the Sacramento Kings. It appears as if any member of the Kings, with the possible exception of Kevin Martin, is available. Miller, whose contract expires next season when he will earn more than $12 million, has been linked with teams such as New York, Chicago and Miami. (Which player on the trading block hasn’t been linked with Miami?). Miller has been out with a left hip flexor strain and one wonders if that would hurt his trade value. John Salmons is a name that has drawn interest and there are some contenders such as San Antonio, where he could be a contributing rotation player.

Jamaal Tinsley. The Pacers have told him to stay home all season so he has been collecting his salary of nearly $7 million, one that has an additional $14 million remaining the next two years.

There was a rumor that Charlotte was considering a multi-player deal that would include Raymond Felton for Tinsley. Charlotte shot that down and rightly so. Felton is emerging as a highly productive point guard.

With Jameer Nelson possibly out for the season, Orlando is in need of a point guard, but the Magic recently acquired veteran Tyronn Lue.

If Indiana is able to unload Tinsley it would be a solid move regardless of what the Pacers got back.

Joe Smith. Not the biggest of name, but he’s a player who many contenders would covet if available. Smith has an expiring $4.7 million contract with Oklahoma City and if he became available in a trade (or if the Thunder bought him out), contenders such as  Boston, San Antonio and his former Cleveland team would surely inquire about his services.

The O’Neals. Phoenix probably wouldn’t mind parting with Shaquille O’Neal and things haven’t worked in Toronto for Jermaine O’Neal. The problem is that both players have seen their better days and each has a huge contract that doesn’t expire until after the 2009-2010 season. Jermaine is owed nearly $23 million next year and Shaq is on the books for $20 million in 2009-2010.

Miami, which traded Shaq, is still mentioned as a potential suitor for Jermaine.

Trade Amare to Portland along with Goran Dragic for LaMarcus Aldrige, Jerryd Bayless and Raef LaFrentz. This looks like a good deal.

    Portland Trailblazers Line-up:
    SF- Travis Outlaw, Nicolas Batum
    PF- Amare Stoudemire, Channing Frye
C- Greg Oden, Joel Pryzbilla, Ike Diogu
SG- Brandon Roy, Rudy Fernandez, Martell Webster
    PG- Steve Blake, Sergio Rodriguez

The Combination of Brandon Roy, Amare Stoudemire and Greg Oden will make a big impact in the Playoffs. Go Blazers!

I have been a fan of the Bulls for a long time. And alot of fans have posted thier hopes that the Bulls get Stoudemire. I spend my winter’s in the Phoenix area and know all about Stoudemire. Even attended a birthday party he threw when He turned 21. And I just feel giving the short contract and inconsistnet defense & rebounding that the Bulls should pass. This deal would cost Chicago too much and give a time limited return. I actually like aquiring Shaq much more. Yes, He isn’t the player he used to be. But he is still twice the Player Aaron Gray or Joakim Noah have been. He could be aquired for far less then Kerr would want for Stoudemire and be able to play limited minutes while the Bulls continue to groom Noah & Gray. Then in 2010 the Bulls would have 20+ Million available for free agents or re-signing players like Rose, Thomas, Noah etc. I know it’s not the sexy trade but when has sexy won anything.

I think the TrailBlazers should keep Aldridge and Bayless, and should get rid of Travis Outlaw, who is pleading to be a starter, which may cause chemistry issues in the future. I say the Blazers trade Travis Outlaw and Raef Lafrentz to the Milwaukee Bucks, for Richard Jefferson and Damon Jones. It works for both teams, as the Bucks gets rid of Jefferson’s big contract and acquire a younger and more cheaper starting small forward, while the Blazers acquire a former All-Star, who played a big part on a Nets team, that made it to the Finals in back to back seasons. Damon Jones, would just be a throw in, and should get waived upon arrival.

I think a move that would put the Bobcats over the top and land them their first playoff berth, is if they would send a package of Raymond Felton, Nazr Mohammed, and Sean May, to the Sacramento Kings, for Brad Miller and Quincy Douby. Brad Miller and Okafor upfront, would be a great tandem. Remember the last time, Brad Miller paired with a big man that averages a double double, in Jermaine O’Neal, the Pacers almost made it to the Finals. I’m not saying the Bobcats can do that, but with players like Brad Miller, Okafor, Boris Diaw, Raja Bell, Radmonovic, DJ Augustin, Diop, Juwan Howard, and etc. they would surprise a couple of teams in the playoffs.

Neither Phoenix nor Portland should deal with each other on the level of players we are speaking of. Never tarde big names iwth in conference. phoenix try your luck in the East. I do like the idea of Outlaw and La Frentz for Jefferson and Jones, works well for both teams.

Steve Kerr has really screwed up the Phoenix Suns. I think he was trying to turn them into some screwy version of the Spurs. Kind of a can’t beat, so join ‘em approach. Phoenix Suns were pretty darn good in the D’Antoni days, even if they didnt get past the Spurs, they did pretty darn good, had several 50+ win seasons, and were FUN to watch. This new team is painful to watch, inconsistant, and has not direction. It was about going for a championship, now its about salary dumping. And now I hear Sarver is making calls instead of Kerr. What the heck happened. And now they are dumping Amare as he is about to enter the prime of his career??? The Suns are throwing away the best big man they ever had. Jerry C. forget the Olympic team and buy back the Suns and bring back Brian C. as GM!!! We miss you guys!!!

    1. John Paxson (Bulls)…anyone who has a chance to get Kobe and wants to think about it..has to go…not to mention what he has failed to do with so many pieces to work with…(see Danny Ainge’s results)

    2. Steve Kerr (suns)..talking about fun in the sun…well that’s over.

    3. Kevin McHale (Wolves)…2 players he could have had Roy and Mayo…so sad!

    4. Donnie Nelson (Mavs)..at a time when budget cuts are at the highest…cut this guy…who needs a GM when Mark Cuban makes the calls.

    5. Mike Dunleavy (Clippers0…Clipper Nation needs a Martha Stewart make over.

Honorable mention to John Hammond (Bucks) he breeds players to be satrs and win everywhere except Milwaukee. i.e Mo Williams and soon to be Ramon Sessions.

I am a suns fan and have been forever. I loved amare and just think he isnt giving his all anymore. I would do the Lamarcus Aldridge deal in a heart beat. I would even throw in LB or a pick if you wanted. I think you have a pretty complete player in Aldridge and a man who doesnt complain about touches. Since we have a lot of scorers that would fit great for the suns.

I hope Miami steps and makes the move for Stoudemire. I’d even love it even more if it was a trade that didn’t send Marion back. You could use Marion for another trade or maybe keep him. A team fielding a Wade/Stoudemire combo would be pretty formidable and attract other decent free agents next season, no to mention if you still had Marion. They would call it the next big three. This move would put the Heat back where they belong, in the thick of championship runs. GO HEAT!

I do know for a fact that Ron Artest is on the block to. Some teams would be scared to take him, but he is also a free agent after this season and could be looked upon as a expiring contract.

Im undecided if I want the Spurs to make a move. Before Bynum went down, I thought the Spurs really needed to fill their HUGE hole of another shot blocking big man. But now, I think they can and would beat the Lakers as is. However, that said, you can never have too many shot blockers to make your defense better, which clearly the Spurs are not the same defensively as they have been. While they are linked to Carter and the two Millers (none of which improve your defense), I would much rather them make a deal to get a Sheldon Williams type player, athletic big that can rebound and block shots.

i sentiment everything said here… Clippers are a bigger let down than most even admit (they were on their way)

i think the big problem with a lot of these trade scenarios, the reason these players are now available and why these GM’s have royally screwed up up is that they forgot about one KEY ELEMENT… CHEMISTRY

PHX lost chemistry when Marion left because of what he allowed the rest of the team to do & not do… consequently Amare better hope he goes to a team with some shooters and someone to get him the ball in the right spots (Chicago) or we will see some issues.

New Jersey, Portland & Cleveland are gelling right now and subtle changes will have a greater/more positive impact than some unecessary blockbuster trade that will have a short-lived shock factor at best.

i remember the Rockets on multiple occassions winning championships and going on 22 game winning streak without T-Wac & a diminished team off of pure chermistry.

As much as i hate the Spurs, look how they keep winning with the same team, same chemistry & minor additions/subtractions, that is long-lived CHEMISTRY still out there winning because they stayed together long enough to do it as a team. (still hate though) the rest of these teams & players (between injuries & coaching changes) dont stay in one city long enough to learn how to be losers let alone how to be consistent winners.

all in all most of these teams should just stand pat & make smaller moves and just build through draft/ free agency & “GOOD SENSIBLE” trades… in my opinion the best player amade available via trade DURING a season is not always the best solution for your team (especially if it doesn’t fit the team philosophy or better yet if there ISN’T a team philosophy yet)

marquee names should only be involved with the Kings, Bobcats, T’Wolves, Warriors & maybe the Bulls… the rest have the building blocks already and can just wait till the offseason

I am a die hard sixers fan and i just don’t understand why they arent trying to get in the running for amare; pheonix is looking for young talent and expiring contracts, with that said the sixers could part with andre miller who has stated before he is a west coast guy and wouldnt mind going back there and his contract runs through this season so it would give phoenix some of the cap relief they are looking for; in addition the sixers could throw in a first round pick and a number of young talented players; I dont know if I would want to trade thaddeus young and andre iguodala is playing big time lately and has been great down the stretch of games, but if you got rid of one of them and brought in amare to the east it could be huge, and he fits perfectly into the uptempo running game the sixers play. Aside from them however, they could still propose a deal involving up and coming talent maresse speights as well..not a bad deal for phoenix. Also I just read on here that tyson chandler and dalmeberts salaries are matchable and I would make that trade in a heartbeat if i were the sixers, dalembert is as inconsistant as can be; I would even thrwo in a draft pick maybe a 2nd rounder to sweeten the deal.

    go sixers.

I AM a SPurs fan and I appreciate your appreciation of a team you dislike. You are right on about chemistry. Remember when the Lakers added Malone and Payton? Where did that get them? They lost to a together Pistons team (which the Spurs beat the following year lol).
WHen you add a “superstar” he has to take his shots from someone, namely the starters that are already there. 2 things you should know sbout the Spurs philosophy:
    1. Pop likes to bring in players taken late, like 35 or 40, because they have something to prove (eg Roger Mason).
    2. Pop says the first thing they try to do with a new player is to help him get over himself. Which is why they hopefully will not touch Starbury.
    Over and out.

Rose, Ben, Deng, Amaire, Noah as the starter. Off the bench, Larry Hughes,Andres Nocioni, Thabo Sefolosha, Aaron Gray and Hunter.

The Cavaliers need another starting big man, they are fooling themselves if they dont make a move. I cant figure out why Cleveland wouldn’t try to get in the mix for Shaq.

A trade of Wally(13mil) and Varejao (6.7mil) would fit perfect for Shaq (20mil)

Varejao is athletic and could get up and down the floor quick and not “hog up the lane.” As Shaq is blamed for. He could be more of a garbage man and leave the scoring to all of the suns other threats. Plus Wally and Varejaos contracts expire at the end of the year so it would give Phoenix lots of flexibility if they choose to not resign Varejao.

Cleveland gets a motivated Shaquille Oneal with a chance to add 2 more rings to his collection before his contract is up. Cleveland could also start Shaq at Center and move Ilgsuskas to PF and with Lebron at SF have one of the meanest and tallest defensive fronts ever assembled. I would think this deal would make both teams very happy. Kerr and Ferry were teammates surely they could work this out.

SF - Deng/Nocioni (preferably Nocioni to me… for defensive toughness)
    PF - Stoudemire
C - Noah (keep him to play weakside post D, rebounding & hustle… you’ll need it with Stoudemire on the squad… thats why they missed Marion so much)

The Bulls should send Deng or Nocioni, Tyrus (he is the same type of player as Stoudemire just not near as refined), Hughes and/or Gooden

Also, you left Rose off the starters…I assume Rose would start over Hinrich.

Not to mention…Deng or Nocioni like it wouldn’t matter which? Deng is 100x the player that Nocioni is…

Why does Porter and Kerr get a pass on this Suns mess? Lets see, Kerr traded for Shaq which didn’t work, he traded for Richardson who plays no defense, and he drafted Lopez who hasnt helped and Dragic is a flop. Meanwhile Diaw puts up double doubles and Bell has scored when healthy.

Lets not forget Porter who has aliented Nash, Barnes, Amare, Diaw, Bell and others. Porter does not know if his team is a running or half court team, his team lacks disipline with the many turnovers they commit and watching them in Cleveland, they dont even run a layup line properly, its just 11 guys shooting 11 balls at the same time in warmups. I say Porter is who should GO. Porter has never won a title as a player, assistant, or head coach and has turned a running tiger into a crippled elephant. Would you tie an anchor and put boots on a tiger? Well, Porter has to this Suns team.

Now you want to trade a young talented player and rebuild around Shaq? I dont get it. So in 2010 Nash bolts, Shaq is gone, Hill is gone, Diaw is gone, Bell is gone, and Amare is dealt and who is your future? Dragic, Lopez, Tucker, and maybe Barbosa? Welcome to the lottery for the next 5 years. Even if you had cap space who would want to play for Porter or GM, Kerr?

Now that I put Kerr and Porter on blast for the crappy job they have done. Lets look at the unthinkable and if they were to trade their present and future franchise player, Mr Amare Stoudemire.

I like how other teams throw their garbage out there.
If I trade with Chicago I want Deng, Gordon, Hinrich, Sefolosha, or Hinrich with Thomas. At least 3 of those players listed. None of this crap for Noah, Hughes or Gooden. Obviously they’re not giving up Rose so I looked at the rest of their roster. By the way the Suns drafted Deng so getting him back would right that wrong when they dealt him draft night.

If I trade with Portland it must include Aldridge, Outlaw, Bayless, and/or Rudy Fernandez. Yes, the Suns traded Fernandez draft night also which was another mistake and I demand he be part of any package with a Portland deal.

With Detroit, I’d like to have Stuckey, but I doubt they part with him so getting Rasheed’s expiring contract, Prince, and Afflalo and picks would be nice.

With Charlotte it has to involve Greald Wallace and either Augustin or Felton and tons of picks since the rest of their roster is former Suns or flat out sucks or is hurt all the time like Okafor.

With the Clippers, I want Thornton, Kaman and Gordon. The rest are past their prime.

With the Kings it has to inolve Udrih, Hawes, and either Thompson or Garcia. They can have Dragic if we get Udrih to back up Nash.

With the Raptors, they got to get Bargnani, Parker, Graham, and either Calderson or Ukic.

    Miami has nothing but Wade.

The perfect fit for Amare is Detroit.. He was here over the weekend and the fans showed him so much love, he acknowledged it would be great to play for the Pistons..The trade that would work is Wallace, Prince, and Maxiel for Stoudamire, Barbosa, and Barnes..The Suns will obtain some stability and Defense in there front court and in the short term have 13+ million in cap space from Wallace’s contract being up at the end of the year..You get a world champion/gold medalist small forward in Tayshaun and a PF that won’t clog up the middle with Shaq. Also you clear some more salary with Barbosa who is in and out of Porters doghouse..The trade works for both teams in the present and future..

    Bulls :
    Rose, Ben, Deng, Amair, Noah
    bench:Hughes, Nocioni,Sefolosha,Gray and Hunter
conclusion: great starting four, productive bench.

    Suns:
    Nash, Richardson, Hills, Thomas, Shaq
Hinrich, Barbosa, Barnes, Drew Gorden, Robin Lopez, Dudley, Tucker
also got one first round and one second round picks
conclusion: productive bench, and play defense with the new line up.

But in the end, Suns are still the loser of the trade, because Amair is just too good, he is better than Chris Bosh in PF. The best power forward for years to go.

look jason, that deal is never going to work and chris bosh is better than amare for a lot of reasons. and u should learn to spell their names, makes us easier to understand wtf ur sayin. suns wud never take hinrich for his contract and the only way the chicago deal wud work is if both thomas and noah are included in the package..
its a good deal for chicago coz rose is a pretty decent pg and will be able to work with amare.. but for the suns? inconsistent players that will only be role players in the future? i dun get it..
steve kerr has got to go.. maybe sarver can get rid of him and porter and take over.. brace yourselves suns will be the next OKC

    Chicago gets

    Phoenix gets
    Raef (expiring contract)
    Sergio
    Shavlik Randolph
    Portland gets
    Kirk Hinrich
    Drew Gooden

That deal with Portland for Rudy, Trout, Aldridge and Bayless is ridiculous. I wouldn’t give up those four for the entire Suns roster. The culture in P-town and what we are trying to do is win in the long run and trading that much young talent for Amare is absolute opposite. Why not ask for Oden, Roy and half of Paul Allen’s fortune while you are at it. The only way that proposed deal happens is if Kevin Pritchard wakes up and has down syndrome.

Ever since Kerr took over this team it has been a bungled mess of mistakes from woe to go.

It is Porter and Kerr that should go, not Amare. Kerr has assembled a bunch of pieces that don’t fit together. Porter has a starting line up of former all-stars at his disposal and struggle to beat Golden State.

Now that Kerr has stupidly announced Amare is going to be traded, they basically have to pull the trigger now, and there is now no way that they will get players of equal calibre in return.

And why is Nash not mentioned in trade rumours? Amare is 26, if they are looking to get younger and dump salary, surely it should be out with the older players with larger contracts? Surely Shaq, Hill, and Richardson should be out there too?

PHX could still make this thing work if they brought in a better head coach. Someone get Avery Johnson on the phone?

i believe Memphis has already said no but if still possible, if The cheap owner must trade Amare wich I dont want then Amare to Memphis for Rudy Gay, Mike Conley Jr, Hakeem Warrick, is smart. Dont care what you say, Gay has ice water running through his veins and will for a long time, offence and defence, the guy is good. Conley would be 20 times better as back up point this year and future starter than Dragic (he is garbage) and Warrick is atleast an athlete at the four spot, the team has scorers,he knows his role and his money falls off. Then Barbosa and barnes for Hustons Shane battier, he is the dirt worker hustle guy that every team needs, plus he can shoot and is an excellent defender, with Gay at the three, and Shaq at five, he could even start at the four, he makes up for his size with pure heart and the fact that he is smarter than others. starting five Nash, Richardson, Gay, Battier, Shaq

    Warriors get Amare

    Warriors get Suns get
    Amare Stoudemire Corey Maggette
    Marcus Williams
    Brandan Wright
    2 1st round draft picks

Trade works for both teams. Warriors finally get a superstar and a player to fill there power forward hole. The Suns get a young player who has a lot of potential in Brandan Wright to start at power forward and get his shot, Marcus Williams a point guard who wants out to fill that back up point guard position that the suns have wanted for a long time and Corey Maggette an instant scorer who can easily get to the free throw line and 2 1st round draft picks to make it more tempting. It works MAKE IT HAPPEN WARRIORS!!!
