Getting back

Doug Christie - Getty ImagesThis year in the NBA is sure to bring lots of surprises. There have been some really big moves over the summer – KG to Boston, the Rockets getting Doug’s former coach Rick Adelman and Steve Francis, Grant Hill to Phoenix… The sad thing is all this has been overshadowed greatly by the referee gambling scandal. I can’t help but ask myself… Back in the day when my husband played for the Sacramento Kings and they lost to the Lakers, was the game compromised? Well, I will just let sleeping dogs lie and think positive thoughts about David Stern and the NBA.

This is also an interesting year with the number of retired players trying to get back in the league. I truly believe that if a player takes good care of his body, eats right and stays in playing shape, he can play well into his early 40s. I live with an elite athlete in Doug so I’m able to witness first hand what doing all the right things will get you. The guys that have declared their interest in returning are all going to be great assets to any team they land on as they are all veterans with high basketball IQ and are in good shape. Experience is something a lot of teams in the NBA and those players can bring that and many other things to the table. I’m pretty sure Doug can.

Sorry, he’s been done for at least three years now. You can point to veteran experience and leadership and other euphemisms for on-court uselessness, but it doesn’t change anything. Most of the people who are wanting to come back are just going to embarrass themselves, but at least the majority have avoided having the gall of Charles Oakley, who is expecting millions in exchange for marginal production. The only person I can imagine this working out for is Reggie Miller, who has kept in shape and whose sharpshooting skills were not contingent on athleticism. He could be a good backup, but he’s already claimed he’s sitting out this year. I can believe that players like Malone and Stockton could play well into their 40s and still give good contributions to their teams, but they were transcendental talents. Christie isn’t even close.

This is just a bunch of bs…Charles Oakley while yes at 36 yrs old was getting 12 boards a game for the Raptors, when he retired 4 years ago (at 39) he went into the season (and to mid-season) with no team interested in him with even a non-guaranted contract… The Houston Rockets used him as a 3rd string PF and he couldn’t play more than 7 mins a game.. He quit when told he wouldn’t be on the playoff roster and nobody else wanted him… He was perfectly healthy his last year, no injuries he could have bounced back from.

Doug Christie has played 14 games in 2 years….. has been a headache for last 2 teams… too much of a headcase, prima dona etc.. for some guy a team would used as a 3rd string SG….. Even Clippers he flaked out on when they wanted to sign him for longer.

Reggie Miller, this guy could seriously play 25-30 solid minutes in the NBA, start on a lot of teams and be a great leader and shooter..he could come back.

Penny Hardaway’s career has been over for 10 years now..Sucks, a guy that was All-NBA 1-st team as a second year player, just 3 yrs removed from high school but injuries got the best of him… He will not be a factor on Miami Heat.. No other team would pay him a gurantteed or partialy guarntted minimum..wrong choice for Heat.

NBA is younger and more athletic…..these comeback guys are not going to fly. Doug Christie has to decide whether he wants to be this flamboyant entertainer or a basektball player vs. reality star… No team wants this.. Teams that sign 37 year old guys whose skills have lessensed want someone who will provide leadership, stability, and mentor young players..and be reliable….he isn’t.. He should straight retire or go to Europe.

Why is everyone hating on the veterans? The only mistake any veteran coming out of retirement or coming back from injury is asking for too much money. Players now a days (the youth) demand too much money, and each team goes out and spends too much money on a hopeful franchise player and is left with nothing to sign free agents. The only people now that will work for less are the true vets. Allan Houston and Penny Hardaway. They understand they can’t do what they use to, kinda like Reggie and other as their careers near their ends, but they can still contribute. Teams like Boston or Miami. Teams that don’t have enough players to stay healthy. When you lose an allstar, the next best thing is a veteran that use to be able to score on will, not some 2nd rate over paid rookie who has yet to learn when to take the right shot. Penny and Allan will contribute well. Definitley not starters, but bench contributers for sure. Doug Christie, sure. He can play. He just needed time to rest. Still maybe a head case, but if he wants to play, he’ll need to settle for less money and know his role. Charles Oakley…yeah right. One fall to the ground or collision of knee to knee and he’ll be out for the season. I hope no one spends more than the veteran minimum on him. Darrell Armstrong, Gary Payton, Chris Webber. I would love to see these guys on teams that will let them play again. Maybe Boston can pull money out of the cracks and sign them, but that would require Cwebb to settle for little money like Posey and House did. I sure hope so. BUt for real. stop hating on all the vets. They will pay their dues and contribute. You will all see.

You have to keep in mind that Doug Christie, when playing, was one of the best defenders in the league. Even though I don’t think he could have the same impact on the defensive end as he used to, I am pretty sure he could still be better defensively than 3/4 of the guys playing in the NBA (Still has high b-ball IQ and lots of experience). He would also be able to make some shots and be an effective backup who can play 3 positions.

I have been a Sacramento fan now for years and the thought of Doug Chrisitie returning to the NBA is Ludacris. Watching him play in Sac in his last season I was dissapointed that the Kings organization didn’t get rid of him, and now the fact of him coming back is unreal. Yeah I agree with guys like Regie Miller who have thought of making a return, that guy has a great talent and knowledge of the game. Watch out for the Celtics.

Doug Christie was never any good. The only thing he ever did was off the ball defense. He was called a good defender but couldn’t stop his man from scoring ever. Got steals by leaving his man. I remember the year Jim Jackson played with Sactown, he came off the bench. I told everyone that JJ should be starting over Christie, everyone said they have team chemistry so they shouldn’t change the lineup. I said if the game is on the line and you need a basket at the end of the game who would you rather pass to. A guy you get along real well with or a guy who’s gonna make the damn basket. Well JJ kinda went off in the playoffs, I think one game against Dallas he had 16 pts and 12 rebs. In the deciding game against Dallas, Webber out with injury, JJ went like 12 of 13 from field, Christie didn’t even get to play hardly at all in that series. My point being, Christie acually hurt Sactown, by having him in there when other players were better. He wasn’t very good period, but that’s what happens all over the league with good teams, even the sucky players get praise. Jackie Christie your husband wasn’t very good, sorry. He didn’t suck but was not what I’m sure your telling yourself he was. Move on honey, don’t you two have a clothing line or something. Go get me a sweater and leave the NBA talk to those who know!

Doug Christie, even if he makes a roster, wont see the floor and will bewaived halfway through the year. Allan Houston will be useless, can’t get your clean looks anymore houston when you cant get open. reggie will be the best of the 3 but will probably only see 6-10 mins/game and not do a whole lot, i.e.darrell armstrong. Reggie is there for locker room presence now.

    Penny will be a cheerleader.

I dont know what these guys are doing, if they were undrafted rookies, nobody would look at them, theyd be 7th-9th man on nbdl roster. Theyre signed because of their names and experience, not because of what they can do on the court. Look at darrick martin in toronto…mentor…he is not nba calibre player anymore. he looks like a fat pudgy rec league player.

I don’t have anything against Christie, Oakley or Hardaway wanting to come back and play - but I can’t stand to hear them talking about ‘major contributions’. Any team would be lucky to utilise their experience in clutch situations (a la Robert Horry) and as both a steadying force and educational tool for bringing along younger players but please stop talking yourselves up as if gym-style fitness compares with a game-hardened 82-match season that involves gruelling schedules and stacks of travel. I wish these guys the best and their contribution to the NBA over the years deserves recognition - but I hope they can enjoy whatever role they can earn on whatever team signs them.

I wouldn’t care if Christie was 30 years old, I wouldn’t take him and here’s why: I watched game 7 vs the Lakers from 2002 on tape recently, and if you watch Christie during that game, you will see a scared man. He looks plain frightened the whole time, even during the pregame warmups. I can’t recall someone looking so mentally unable to take the pressure. I wouldn’t want a choker (his play reflected his fear, trust me….2-11 from the floor, 0-3 from 3; meanwhile, Bobby Jackson is on fire- 6-9 from the floor and only gets 24 minutes to Christie’s 40) in my locker room, regardless of his age.

Doug needs to seriously take a deal, any deal…he can get one, but not one just to suit your need for exposure. Doug needs to stop profiling and go out there and take a spot, plain and simple, just ball like he used to and really go after it with a team that needs his skillz…be the 10th man and work his way to the 6th…then see your exposure grow…no matter where he is playing.

Jackie…please write more, be controversial…give us the wives perspective….Shaq, Kobe, Jason, Marbury….wives and relationships are on the griddle in the NBA….Donaghy is being slapped with papers…you got the forum baby girl…now send Doug to play some real ball and hit dem keys with some real knowledge on the game behind the game….and do it soon.

It depends on how the veteran left the game. When Doug left he was already showing the dreaded 30 year old and older disease (loss of quickness and explosion). Allan Houston still had something left. So if his knees hold up he might be effective. Not Doug . Medical science has not figured out a way to defy father time. Unless of course you on that stuff that Barry Bonds uses (the cream).

I’m not really a “fan” of Doug Christie’s (he is/was a solid role player, but not a star and definitely should have improved his game more over the years) however:

    1. Are you guys really arguing and getting all frothy-mouthed about Doug Christie? Doug Christie? Damn, it must be a real slow day in basketball…

    2. I agree that this “blog” should have been lovingly written on a Hallmark card and stuck in Doug’s lunchbox, not put on Hoopshype. Nobody really wants to see this. Now had this been eharmony or match.com maybe…

    3. What do you expect her to say? She’s his wife. That’s what good wives and mothers are supposed to say. What do you want her to say? He’s a bum and can’t play, get real. So don’t knock her for saying it, knock Hoopshype for posting this useless piece of info on here. No real basketball head cares about this kind of stuff unless it’s going to affect Doug’s game (and if her cheerleading all this time hasn’t changed him to a better player then nothing will).

    4. If Doug Christie has any of the game his wife hypes that he has then he needs to find a team that actually needs him (AND will use him) and prove it (it’s not about the money it’s about the game, right?). Otherwise, he needs to do what other retired basketball players are doing (amongst other things): commentate for a team, play golf and most importantly get over the fact that his career is over.

It’s sad to see those who sit and ridicule those DOING what they love to do. Does it make you feel better belittling and critizing someone’s skill? We all know Doug’s skill, talent and desire. Usually these things become greater with age if you continue to work on them as Doug has. His hearts in it and if that’s what he wants support that. Yo, The majority of the comments are probably those who participate in fantasy hoops and think they would make a good GM. Talent is something that comes with age and experience. DC has the experience and the athletic ability to make any squad in the league. warranted he has traveled around the league and finally found his fit with the Kings and presenterd the skill sets of a Professional baller. He started and played several hundred games and produced while at all teams, except while he had a brief stint with Knicks. Defensively he can hold his own with any of these young new talented athletes, but they don’t know the tricks of the NBA trade to remain in the league for 14 plus years and become and asset, make an all defensive/offensive team, Doug was mentioned in the defensive category. Can anyone who is on this thread make an all neighborhood team or local All YMCA team? (In the words of Kat WIlliams “I’ll wait”)Thats what I thought. Hush Mouth!! When DC gets into the league this season he will make no less than all defensive team become very active offensively threat and become CBPOY Comeback Player of The Year the year. I know because his training regiment (ala TY) has been refined and focused on Ballin out of control, where flaws are limited and gaming the league to get a few POD’s (play of the day) like he did when he was in the league. Are we talking about Doug Christie or Jesus Christ? These people on here take it so personally that a lot of people won’t take a chance on an older, midlevel player who has visably choked HUGE in the biggest game of his career. It’s the same reason I wouldn’t take John Starks after his 1994 meltdown or Nick Anderson after his 1995 brickfest. Their careers were pretty much over after those games. It’s nothing personal. He might be a very nice person who loves his wife very much. I don’t know him personally…he’s just shown he’ll choke when the pressure is on, so why would I take him if I were a GM?

On the flipside, if someone does take him, and he does well, gets defensive player of the year (which he never got in his prime, but whatever), has a quadruple double of game 7 of the finals while hitting the game winning shot over the opposing team, then great! I’ll be happy for him. I’m not taking it personally that you think he’s the best, I couldn’t care less, it’s your opinion. So you lovers of Doug Christie need to grant us the same, don’t get all hostile because we don’t believe he’d do that well. He’s just a basketball player that you don’t know personally, as much as you want to pretend you do.

I’m from Syracuse, and I love the Orange to death, but do you think I get angry when people tell me that G-Mac doesn’t belong in the NBA? I don’t get hostile towards people who tell me that Boeheim tends to stay in the 2-3 zone too long at times which costs us big games (96 vs Kentucky, Tony Delk had like 7 three’s in my face). I laughed when the league voted John Wallace as the laziest player, and I wasn’t weeping and gnashing my teeth when Derrick Coleman didn’t beome a franchise player. I love my team and where I’m from, and if people don’t, oh well. I just relax and go on with my life. I think you overzealous defenders of Christie just need to relax. He’s made like 40M dollars over the course of his career, he has a loving wife, I think he’ll be okay if he never suits up again. I think you will be too.

I wasn’t trying to drag college ball into a pro forum where it doesn’t belong, I was just showing how the Christie-defenders-to-the-death need to relax and not take things so personally.

The only “old” guys that have anything to offer are the ones that had skills & class to begin with. Jordan, Malone, Stockton, Abdul-Jabber, Miller, etc… and did not leave the game due to a devastating knee injury or greatly diminished skills. Christie was bad news when he was young and would be poison to any team now. The guy is finished and has nothing to offer, get over yourself already, and Oakley & Pippen also. Houston and Hardaway are also done, move on with your lives already!

    Anthony,

Growing up may constitute using punctuation and complete, coherent sentences. You may want to look into that. I’ll even re-write your comment to me as an adult would:

‘Grow up, Siz, you’re lost! Did you hear that, lost! If he is worth 50 million dollars, then he must be an okay player, right?’

Growing up may also constitute making a decision about a player not based on personal opinions and biases, but on what he does on the court, particularly when it counts. I never said Christie was a bad player, he even made All-Defensive first team one year, I just don’t think he’s going to be an all-star at 37 years old. And I challenge you, Anthony, to actually watch game 7 vs the Lakers from 2002. If you even read his statline, it’s a poor game, as I said 2-11, 0-3 from downtown…but more than that, if you WATCH the game, you will see a scared man. I’ll write this so even you understand it: IF IM A GM OF A BASKETBALL TEAM I DONT WANT SCARED PLAYERS ON MY TEAM WHO ARE GOING TO FAIL WHEN IT COUNTS. That’s a rational decision from someone who doesn’t get caught up in the mellowdrama of watching someone’s reality show.

And secondly, Allan Houston was never a GREAT player. He was an All-Star twice, which is very good, but then he ruined the Knicks cap space for like 7 years with his 20M a year contract. GREAT players are Jordan, Bird, Duncan…you can’t pretend Houston is in that league.

The NBA is a business, and teams can’t afford to throw money around on players who have one of the worst injuries a player can have, who have also been retired for a couple years, AND is 36 years old. He doesn’t need the money, he’s made over 100M in his career. So it’s not poor Allan Houston. Besides which, the Nets already have veteran leaders in Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson…and they actually play in games. So you want them to give 5M a year to Allan Houston when they’re already over the cap? And to mentor which rookies, they only have one- Sean Williams, a center. Their second round pick went to Golden State, if I recall. You need to stop feeling sorry for these athletes who get paid millions to play a great game.

“I truly believe that if a player takes good care of his body, eats right and stays in playing shape, he can play well into his early 40s.” Yeah Ok Jackie, name some NBA stars that didn’t virtually lose all of their skills by 40 other than Malone, Stockton, Jordan, or or Abdul-Jabbar? Mutombo gets away with it by virtue of playing in a half-court system backing up another slow big-man in Yao Ming. So by observing your man first-hand stay physically-fit, that allows you to make an inaccurate generalization about all over-40 physicall-fit basketball players that their skills would not have diminished beyond any usefulness whatsoever? Are you really that ignorant? Lets use Hakeem Olajuwon for example; I think everybody would agree that he was one of the most physically-fit ball players of all-time but yet his skills left him regardless by the time he was 39, too the point he was too embarassed and had too much pride to continue to hang-on under the premise of his experience would help the younger players. It is at that point you retire and become a coach, like Patrick Ewing did. Believe me, nobody will ever confuse Doug Christie with the superb ball players I have mentioned.

  59. Mihajo Said,

Some Christie supporters are delusional in thinking that playing in an average of 59 games per season over 14 seasons, for 7 different teams and one of them twice, career point average of 11 and never being an All-Star equates into a successful career. He is so bad he BEGGED the Clippers for a roster spot only to not report to the team and he basically hasn’t played in two seasons because nobody wants that type of classless fool on their team (14 games with meaningless minutes on the Clips & Dallas the last two seasons). This has nothing to do with hating, I’m a basketball purist and Christie is and always has been nothing.

“Christie signed a 10-day contract, then another, and then bailed on them a few days before the deal expired in a bizarre sequence in which his publicist informed the media before the team.” Make all the excuses you want, the FACT is he was under a third 10-day contract and he failed to honor his obligation. Whether you and Christie deserved better is again irelevent. It is your MEANINGLESS opinion. They didn’t decide to go their separate ways, he walked away from the team while under contract. No excuse no matter how you want to interpet it and thats one of the reasons nobody has signed him, the other is that he has NO GAME left and never had much to start with. So take your made-up B.S. elsewhere fool or at least learn how to type using lower case letters, puncuation, and proper spelling. Ham it up with you? You aren’t even close to being in my league!

Here is what the Clippers management thought of his stunt at the time: “Christie left after seven appearances worth 82 minutes, 13 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and 5-of-17 shooting. Six months later, he calls it an amicable departure. Maybe from his standpoint. The Clippers’ front office, though, considered the departure unprofessional and wondered if they hadn’t been used as a publicity stunt by a player trying to drive interest for a reality-TV series and forthcoming book with his wife.” Imagine that, kind of prophetic isn’t it? But of course everybody else is lying except you and Christie.

Players get old , get hurt and lose a step or two. Doug clearly was a step slow in his last years and I doubt aging a couple of years is going to do anything to fix that.

At his best, he was average at everything and great on defense. The defense he played was probably very cerebral but he still needed the quicks to keep up with people. I don’t think he has that anymore.

Either way, “Anthony”, you’re making an as* out of your husband by behaving like this. Talking on his behalf and lashing out at posters in a very transparent and defensive way is childish.

Several posters have brought up valid points as to why he won’t be back and you just spew out “YOU HAVE NO IDEA, GOD WILL JUDGE YOU” response.

You’ve always used his career to push your image. I don’t blame you for that. A lot of celebrity wives do that. The public loves good looking, happy and pleasent celebrity couples and it’s a great way to sell stuff.

    PEOPLE DON’T LIKE YOU THOUGH.

NO ONE WANTS TO BUY ANYTHING FROM A REALLY SUBMISSIVE FORMER PRO WHO HAD A DECENT CAREER.

There is a saying that I once heard that applies to this topic. “The older you are, better you were.” These guys who want to make an attempt to come back should reconsider and leave well enough alone. Granted these guys have experience and were all really solid in some way or another, at one time, but right now these guys wouldn’t get run to death. A guy like Reggie Miller might have a nice chance simply based on his shooting ability. The other guys like Oakley, Houston, Penny, Christie, etc., should stay where they are. I will just say this and I think it about sums it all up. If the SINGLE greatest player to ever play the game couldn’t be successful after an older comeback, what makes anyone think these other guys can. MJ is on a different planet compared to everyone else, and his comeback to the Wizards was hard to watch. So, these guys would be better served to chill at home with the family and leave the empty aspirations alone. Besides, guys like Reggie Miler and Allan Houston do very well now as analysts.

I can’t believe how emotionally charged Anthony gets, as if any of this matters. Can’t people debate about a basketball player without someone getting emotional, and then tattling on us, as if we care what Doug Christie thinks about us? Doug Christie can call me delusional and sick all day long, I’m fine with that. Anyway, here’s how a real debate goes:

Person X–’I've always liked Doug Christie, he played hard and was a good defender. He even held Jordan to 12 points back in the 95-96 season! He then also made all defensive first or second teams several years in a row. I’d have to give him a shot at my roster.’

Person Y–’I'm not a big fan of Christie, personally. He choked in the biggest game of his career, and he had a rather strange departure from a couple teams a few years ago. I don’t think he’d add much to a team.’

Person X–’Really? Isn’t a player allowed one bad game? What about all the other great games he had as a member of the Kings? He was in the league for 14 years, he had to be doing something right.’

Person Y–’Nah, chokers never really get over choking in huge games like that, like John Starks and Nick Anderson. Besides which, he is getting up there in age, and I’m not sure if I want to roll the dice on an aging choker, I could at least get an aging guard who didn’t choke so badly.’

And so on. What’s the deal with everyone defending Christie to the death?

    Anthony,

Honestly, that’s the best post you’ve had. One thing you’ve never addressed though is his game 7 meltdown against the Lakers. THAT’S my biggest concern. He might be in great shape, he might be a decent mentor, but I just wonder if he’ll fall apart again when whatever team he might sign with when it really counts. I’m not lying, I indeed have that tape, and it’s visible. What’s your take on that situation? Do you think he’d fall apart again, or do you think he’s learned from that and will be able to either deliver when it counts, or help others who might be shaken before a huge game?

See, there’s two schools of thought on the subject. There’s the Nick Anderson’s and the John Starks of the world who had terrible games in the Finals, and their careers were never the same. Then there’s Dennis Johnson, who when he was with the Sonics, had the worst game 7 ever (like 0-12 or something like that), but then went on to win championships with the Celtics, starting at point, making HUGE plays. Then of course, there’s Dirk, who was invisible in game 6 vs the Warriors, so we have yet to see how he handles it this season.

I don’t think the Kings were the same after that series in 2002, and Doug had his stints with a couple other teams, but I don’t know a whole lot about that except what has been said in this forum. So what do you think? At 37, do you roll the dice with a player his age who has choked when it counts? I say no…and now it’s your turn–

Anthony is too FUNNY! He ran to his mommy & daddy (Jackie & Doug) and started crying, this man is saying you can’t play ball anymore and thinks his behavior is normal for a blog. LMFAO1 Too funny! He came away missing every point I made about Doug & Christy both. 1) Having the conditioning to play ball does not equate into having the skills 2) Walking away from a legally binding contract for whatever reason is not the type conduct you want to infulence your younger players, meaning CHRISTIE is NOT a good locker room influence. 3) You don’t waste a roster spot on a has-been to share his experience with your younger players, you sign him as a coach-see Patrick Ewing. 4) Most importantly the guy doesn’t have the skills anymore to play at this level, play being the operative word, not the conditioning to be able to run up & down the floor. Olajuwon at 39 could still run the floor with the youngsters but his game had all but left by that time. 5)This whole blog by Jackie is nothing more than free publicity for their enterprise which I DO NOT fault her for, you do what you got to do to make that money, even at the expense of your husband’s dignity. Jackie has made it publically known that doug is nothing more than her bitch, but hey she is beautiful and talented so enjoy Doug, I don’t hate you for it.

I really doubt christie is signed this year. As if eroding skills wasn’t bad enough, the way he left the clippers when they needed him with all their injuries was a classless move.

I’m not sure about the choker thing. I think the earlier example with dennis johnson shows that its not like some players are doomed to fail. I for one would be curious to see how dirk bounces back from his recent playoff failures..

It’s definitely a slow day in the NBA, dude. I’ve just spent half an hour of my life sifting through this garbage pile of comments and I have to say: why do we even care whether Christie comes back? Furthermore, why does it bother us so much that his wife is supporting him? I can’t agree more with RayNate (or was it NateRay) when he said that her comments were better suited for a greeting card, and that HoopsHype must be really stretching to find “writers” to post a blog. Maybe they should have an open call for contributers. I’d like to hear more from some of the people who regularly post comments. I’d apply myself. RayNate, you seem like a pretty bright guy. Why not start your own blog, dude. Few comments posted here are as wise and even-handed as yours.
As for the knuckleheads and mysoginists (sexists) “hating-on” Jackie and Doug, give it a rest man. Say something substantial and meaningful; use your voice for constructive purposes whether they be positive or negative. Avoid the ignorant hate…you know who you are.
    Peace

Doug Christie won’t play. It’s the same posturing we saw last year. The guy just needs to find a day job that his wife approves of.

As for his career. The guy played an important roll on a good team. He was a career roll player and that’s fine. He didn’t suck, he wasn’t great, he did his job and was a professional - well, atleast until his wife started wearing the pants.

I don’t have anything against the retired players. And, I don’t blame them for coming back if some team is willing to pay them a guaranteed contract. But, most teams are bringing these guys back just because of their names. Teams have no intentions of playing these guys for any serious minutes.

And, in Doug Christie’s case, only some of these other guys, he was not an elite player. He was an average player that has some solid games in the playoffs. Let’s not get things twisted. He is not nor everhas been a leader. So, I can’t imagine what he could offer a team now. I’m not even going to go there with the fact that he’s not even the leader at home. :\

The heck with Doug! How about Jackie becoming a Phoenix Suns cheerleader?

  101. Mihajo Said,

    September 22, 2007 @ 2:27 pm

While speaking of Phoenix why not use Grant Hill as a measuring stick as to whether Christie can offer a great team like the Suns anything? We all know Hill’s history of injuries but Phoenix signed him for his leadership, to help with the chemistry issues brewing among their ego-maniac super-star frontcourt. Hill has never even been known for Christie-like defense which we all know the Suns could use. Could he take minutes away from Hill, Raja, Marion, Barbosa, Diaw or even the two rookies Tucker or Strawberry? Of course not. Does he provide the same leadership as Hill? Never in his career. Did Phoenix he consider bringing him in for a work-out? No. Why? Because he really doesn’t have much to offer. He is simply tired of publically being Jackie’s lap-dog. The Suns thought so much of him they invited journeyman swing Richie Frahm to camp instead. Has Dallas thought of bringing him back a second chance? How about the Spurs? The first time Nate yells at him up in Portland he’d be running faster from his contract than he did with the Clippers. He played well for the good Kings team but that was then, quite awhile ago.

you are some gm you seem to think anyone cares about you or your hate no they don’t does your wife if you have one whip you? well thats how easy it is to spread lies and start rumors and how do you know who christie worked out for maybe he don’t want to play for the suns are they the champions? no enough said so just sit back eat a chilly dog and shut up your stuff is tired and old and besides he is rich and famous so even if he doesn’t play it don’t seem like it will hurt him much.

  103. Mihajo Said,

    September 23, 2007 @ 8:01 pm

Listen to you, like your stuff isn’t tired & old? Everybody has told you your are wrong & to shut -up but you think you are the only one entitled to an opinion. Problem is you are too ignorant to understand that your comments are only that, OPINIONS, but you come-off like you know everything. But once again your 12 year-old mentality comes shining through with such a disrespectful remark about my family. This is a sports blog asshole and if you can’t “ham it up”, like you offered to earlier, why do you keep coming back? You know damn well if you said that to someone in person you would take a beating but since you are all of 12, you hide behind your computer.

So here is some more news you can choke-on and get all bent out of shape over. Christie’s best days were on the Kings with Vlade Divac & company when they were serious title contenders. Geoff Petrie is preparing to retire Vlade’s number because he so popular & a class act. Vlade is only 39 & instead of trying to portray himself as something he is not & get back into the league even though he knows its time to move on. Vlade isn’t self-absorbed and selfish like Christie, trying to alter his image & make money off of it. Vlade is in Europe raising money for the United Nations Refugee Agency & the Serbian Refugees Committee. Now Vlade is something Christie will never be, a class act. Vlade’s other Kings teammates went to the Balkans to help support Vlade but guess who wasn’t there? You guessed it, classless Christie!

Are you kidding? It just kills him that nobody will let him play for them. Famous for what? Playing the bitch to a beautiful & talented woman? You’d think he’d keep that a secret if he had any dignity left at all! So why you so hot for him anyway? Do you have some secret fantasy where you want to chupas Doug’s verga? LMFAO!

Anthony I’m actually surprised at your reply. My comments about Christie have nothing to do with his race or ethnicity. Based simply off of his performance & behavior. “Comeback?” Is Randy Livingston making a “comeback” as well? This is now the *third* year in row that Doug Christie has made a “comeback”. Give Mrs. and Ms. Christie credit — they at least understand how the game is played. They have products to sell with limited capital for promotion, so every year, Doug gets a couple of newspaper stories out of a purported “comeback”. The Christies get press. A reporter gets an easy story. ‘Tards get something to jabber about. Everyone is viciously happy with this arrangement.

Two years ago it was the Mavericks. That lasted less than a month.

Last season, it was the Clippers. According to published reports, they declined to renew his 10 day contract when they suspected the whole thing had more to do with getting free press for their awful reality show (hey Jackie, did you ever get that plasma TV installed? For anyone curious, the *entire first episode* was devoted to Jackie ordering a television. Riveting TV, and not a surprise that you won’t find it in your local listings these days.)

You’re all being played. I don’t expect that bothers you much, as the IQ here seems to be hovering dangerously close to room temperature. It doesn’t bother me at all, because I get another year of making cheap jokes at the Christie’s expense, which I doubt the knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing neanderthals that make up your average retarded sports fan would understand if I carved it on the inside of your eyelids with a rusty nail.
