Another good break for me

Hi everybody!

It’s been a while since my last blog, but as you know I’ve been pretty busy. As in moving-to-another-city busy.

I’m loving my new situation. Getting traded to the Dallas Mavericks gives me a shot at the ring while I’m in my prime, so I’m obviously very happy about it.

That said, I’m going to miss Washington. That city was great for me in so many ways.

I want to make one thing clear first… I never asked to be traded out of Washington or anything like that. I was always professional with the team and I have to say the organization was very classy about the whole trade thing. They told me in advance the day of the trade deadline that something was going to happen. Although at the end of the day this is a business, they handled me well. They were very respectful and didn’t treat me like an ordinary player. That goes a long way with me. I’m grateful with the front office for that.

I’m grateful to a lot other people in Washington, in fact. That’s the thing I’m going to miss the most – the people. The relationships and the bonds that I created there are going to last a lifetime. I was very involved in the community and leaving all that behind was kind of hard.

As far as the team, it’s sad that we didn’t get an opportunity to finish what we started. We had a good thing going with Antawn Jamison, Gilbert Arenas and the rest of the guys. I was thrilled to be part of the foundation of the team there. In the end, it didn’t work for some reason and it made sense for the Wizards to trade many of us.

Gilbert is one of the few players remaining. I’ve been in touch with him to see if he’s doing well. He’s in good spirits. I wanted to let him know that me, my mom and the rest of my family are praying so that everything works ut well for him. We’ll always have his back.

They often ask me to compare how’s playing with Jason Kidd now as opposed to doing it with Gilbert. Well, they are both great players. Gilbert has always been a scoring guard and can do so many things with the ball in his hands. His thing is scoring. Meanwhile, Jason has a special gift… And that is making people better. I’m fortunate to be playing with a guy like him. I remember before my first game with Dallas, we had just one practice and I was already able to pick up some plays because of his knowledge of the game and his ability to teach us where we should be on the floor. He’s making the game and the adjustment to a new system a lot easier for DeShawn Stevenson, Brendan Haywood and myself.

We’re on a 13-game winning streak and we’re a threat to all teams in the NBA right now. We can compete against anybody. I’m looking forward to this challenge of trying to win the championship and feel truly blessed and thankful to God for giving me all these opportunities. I’m a lucky man.

Talk to you soon. Bye.

I admit, I had no idea how great this trade was going to be for the Mavs. The team looks great and everyone is playing great basketball.

It was nice to hear your experience in your first practice and how Kidd helped you out to learn plays. It would be interesting to hear more about the adjustment and how you learn to play with with new squad, especially considering you guys are legitimate contenders for the Western Title right now.

    hey Caron

just want to tell you, person like you will success wherever you are. tell you what, the first time i met you in verizon center, it was a game between the wizards and the mavs, and the wizards lost the game. at that time i can never imagine that one day you’ll leave for dallas. anyway i know you’ve been playing in so many different situations and you remain as good as you can. it’s your attitude towards the game that makes you so awesome and [tough], as people may say^^

it’s gone very well so far as the mavs won 13 straight, just keep going and i’ll always pray for you. the title is not impossible, as long as you guys stay healthy and aggressive.

say hello to deshawn & brendan. be good!

    Caron,

lt’s great having you here in Dallas and we’re all excited about our championship chances. l’m a season ticket holder and never felt better about the Mavericks title aspirations. This city hasn’t had this type of a Mavs buzz to it since 2006. Play to the best of your ability every night and play your hardest and the skies the limit. But always remind yourself what crowd you truly are playing for. Us or God.

    God bless, JG

da new man Caron - do me one favor. Win the whole thing for my son and all Mavericks fans. I actually trained him to learn how Jason Kidd plays and that simple basketball is actually the best basketball. me and him are excited on how the new combination of you, Dirk, Kidd and Terry (if he will be well) will do in the playoffs. I know that West is a tough conference - but best of luck to Dallas!
    P.S.
you’re as valuable as Kobe and Lebron - people just don’t see it

I’m so thrilled about you three being traded to Dallas, the CHAMPIONSHIP is not a distant memory anymore.

with this 13 straight winning streak you’re really doing well, get healthy and I know Dallas have the chance to win it all. Good Luck!

You are great, Caron! I love the versatility and toughness you bring to this Dallas squad. Yo and Shawn are quite a tandem, especially on fast break and defense, and I see you having success against Kobe and Melo on D. Keep is up, and can’t wait to see you in June!

I am an avid Mavericks fan, and to tell you the truth I was a little worried about the Mav’s chance of getting past the 1st round of playoffs.
Now with the addition of Mr. Butler & crew I think we have a chance of going all the way!!

    Hey there Caron,

Made sure that I was at the first home game in Dallas that you guys played in and I must say that it didn’t dissapoint. This city loves our Mavs, but a lot of the fans are still heartbroken over the 06 Finals and then the first round bounce by the Warriors. Here’s to hopig that you guys can erase those painful memories from our minds. Good luck and stay healthy!

Tuff Juice, those of us back in the District of Caron will be pulling for you guys now in the DFW, especially if you guys and the Cavs are the last team standing. I know that’s a special motivator for all you guys, and I’ll always cherish my signed all-star Butler jersey! Thanks for the great memories…

Caron! You’re the man! Always my favorite UConn player, I knew you would also be a great NBA player. The ‘02 Tourny vs Maryland was such a heart-breaker but that game showed exactly who you are: a player willing to sacrifice himself for his team and doing anything he can to win. I am pulling for you and the Mavs now, good luck Caron!

Caron, appreciate all the memories with the Wizards. We had some great times watching you play and we appreciate the hard work you put. We also appreciate the wonderful things you did for the community and back here in the DC area we’re rooting for you and the Mavs to get that championship. Best of luck!

I ALWAYS supported you and wish you the best in Dallas, but did not appreciate the way you dissed and let Barkley and crew diss the Wizards. It changed you in my eyes slightly. You were a part of the losing ways also. The team is made up of players and all of you guys who were traded made up the team. But to let Barkley call the Wiz a D league team and then join in on the laughter with them was really disrespectful to the city and those of us who supported you all even when you were losing and when you were traded.

TJ, as far as I’m concerned (all respect to the good people of Wisconsin), you’re a Washingtonian. No ‘honorary’ or any of that stuff. Thanks for making yourself a real part of the city and community. Maybe when we get this ship righted, we’ll see you back in the blue-and-copper #3.

    Peace and strength.

You have walked the desert and hit the promised land. I already had the Mavs winning the West, but you guys got everything you need now. You worked hard, hit tough times throughout your career, but have always been a high caliber player, on and off the court (even though I feel like when someone says ‘off the court’ they use it to define way too much.)

You been workin, keep workin, you been playin great, keep playin great. This is everything a player could ask for. Knock ‘em dead kid.

    “Dissappointed”

Don’t be to hard on Caron…. Barkley is an asshole (although a funny one)
he always puts these players in an uncomfortable situation when asking questions and Caron handled it as professional as he could he laughed it off but trust me he was not disrespecting the City in any way.

Good things always happen to good people. You make all of Racine and Wisconsin proud. Your the direct opposite of Nick Van Exel. He has done absolutely nothing for Kenosha or the kids of Wisconsin. Your work in the community and in your hometown is well-documented. Some people just “get it”, I guess. You are adored and loved by Wisconsin and will be in our Hall Of Fame one day. Your one of few players I have watched and wished that “father time” never gets a hold of. Stay blessed and make us proud.

Just remember, when everything starts running real smooth with the Mavs, that you SHOULD NOT RUN AN ISO FOR YOURSELF EVERY TIME YOU TOUCH THE BALL AND CREATE A BLACK HOLE THAT AFFECTS THE ENTIRE TEAMS CHEMISTRY.

Other than that, it was a lot of fun watching you play.

I am so very thrilled for you. I Have been a fan of the team, all the way back to the Championship years. And when we had the Big Three here, I felt that at last we could be back at the top where we belonged. But things happen, a lot of things, and I still am hoping that someday the Wizards will be a winner! Thanks to you for time here…it was great!

    Take care and win on!

No one would have thought this Mavs team would be possible 5 years ago. Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion, Caron Butler, and Dirk Nowitzki used to be an all-star roster. Not to mention Jason Terry has always been an above average baller and Jose Barea finally found his game. Haywood is a much better player these days too. This team is deep at all positions. If they stick together then it’s game over.

Hey Caron. I “used” to be a Wizards fan and it killed me to here about you, Antawn, and even Dominique McGuire being traded all over the league. Dallas is picking up a franchise caliber player and even better a franchise caliber human being. Just know you will never be booed when you come back to Washington because Tough Juice will live on.

DC misses you bro. I’m a life-long Wizards/Bullets fan and you are among the greatest that I’ve seen play in my lifetime. I’m glad you were traded to a winning team (and not the Cavs!), and I’ll be pulling for you, Brendan and Deshawn to get a ring this year. Lord knows you deserve it.

    much love,
